Growing Awareness is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation.
Our Mission
Biodiversity and conservation issues are inextricably linked to food production, forestry and resource management. In our three core areas we work to cultivate an awareness of the managed landscape, the connections between the cultivated, wilderness and the urban environments.
Growing Awareness exists to generate and facilitate the adoption of an ecological imperative. This necessitates us to develop the awareness that we are not separate from nature; we are unique but not separate. We are embedded in and inextricable from the global ecosystem. Our actions if unheeding of the ecological imperative have profoundly destructive effects on ‘our’ environment and thus the cultivation of an ecological imperative in all that we do enables us to integrate our actions, systems and design processes with those of the earth to develop a mutually beneficial relationship between humankind and the biological system on which we depend. Our longevity and security ‘are’ the longevity and security of the planet. It is an illusion that they are separate and when making important decisions about the patterning of our existence on the Earth it is vital that we outgrow this myopic and immature perspective. It is both unsustainable and counterproductive. Alternative, viable ways to proceed exist now and are available for us to engage in creating a sustainable future for ourselves on Earth.
Growing Awareness aims to:
Demonstrate: Exemplary design processes, land and resource management techniques and systems integration.
Educate: To empower and inspire; companies, organisations, groups and individuals to evolve their own ecological imperatives.
Facilitate: Projects that develop a balanced and integrated existence within natural systems and that provide access to their abundant surplus to those most in need.
